Summer is a fun time to hit the lake in Kentucky, but those doing so should exercise caution.

“Any time anyone’s around the water, whether you’re swimming or boating, we highly recommend wearing a life jacket,” said Game Warden Bronson Abrams of the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources.

There are actions a person should take if they're in a dangerous situation without a life jacket.

“Panicking is your killer, so stay very calm in what you’re doing,” said Chris Money, Russell County Search & Rescue chief. “If you can, take a deep breath, get on your back (and) try to float.”

Money also recommended people make as much noise as possible to grab the attention of others.
