ERLANGER, Ky. — Renovations are complete on the children's section of the Kenton County Public Library's Erlanger branch. 

First lady Britainy Beshear, D-Ky., took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 17 to celebrate the newly renovated section while reading with kids. The $300,000 renovations include new flooring, furniture and bathrooms, along with repainting. 

“This is an amazing day for kids in Kenton County, as we open the newly renovated children’s area at the Erlanger library branch, which will foster a love of reading for the rest of their lives,” Beshear said.

This comes as Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) of Kentucky expands to Kenton County, meaning every child in the state can receive a free book each month from birth through age 5, Beshear added. 

The Kenton County Public Library was the final partner needed for DPIL's Kentucky chapter to serve preschool children in all 120 counties. 

“We’re incredibly grateful for the support from the state and proud of the progress we’ve made over the past three years,” said JC Morgan, executive director of DPIL in Kentucky. “But we’re just getting started. We’ll keep working hard to spread the word until every Kentucky child gets to experience the joy of reading.”

Those interested in signing up a child can visit DPIL's website or that of its Kentucky chapter. The first lady's office said for $13, anyone can sponsor a child to receive books from DPIL for one year. 

Additional improvements include more shelving, an expanded book collection and new toys, the first lady's office added.

Along with books, the Erlanger branch offers a variety of children's activities. The new children's area is the space's first major renovation since 2002.
