LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Louisville, announced he had named Michelle King the new executive director for Louisville Parks and Recreation. She will begin her new role on June 24, 2024.

“I am confident in Michelle’s ability to lead Louisville Parks and Recreation with vision, strategy and dedication,” said Greenberg. “Her extensive experience in Metro and proven track record in fostering collaboration make her an excellent fit for this role.”

King will oversee a department which consists of 123 parks, 14 community centers and more than 13,000 acres of land across the city of Louisville. She has worked for Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District since 2005, most recently in the role of assistant director. King has a law degree and a master’s degree in public affairs and environmental policy from Indiana University.

Ozzy Gibson has served as the interim executive director of Louisville Parks and Recreation over the past year.
