WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden has ordered federal help to Kentucky after the severe storms that hit the state on April 2, 2024.

What You Need To Know

  • President Joe Biden approves Kentucky Disaster Declaration

  • The declaration clears the way for affected counties to receive federal money and other assistance

  • Individuals and businesses affected by the storms can apply for help online and by calling FEMA

The federal money will supplement the state and local recovery efforts to areas which experienced straight-line winds, tornadoes, landslides and mudslides.

The President’s order will bring federal help to Boyd, Carter, Fayette, Greenup, Henry, Jefferson, Jessamine, Mason, Oldham, Union and Whitley counties.

Besides money, assistance can include grants for temporary housing, home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and businesses recover.
E. Craig Levy Sr. of the Federal Emergency Management Agency will coordinate the recovery operations in Kentucky.

Residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas can begin applying for assistance online or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), or by using the FEMA App. Anyone using a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, can give FEMA the number for that service.
