LOUISVILLE, Ky. — John C. Mills of Crestwood, died Friday morning in front of Valhalla Golf Club.

Mills was hit by a shuttle bus while he attempted to cross Shelbyville Road. He died at the scene.

The PGA Championship was delayed by an hour and 20 minutes because of the accident.

“Our focus is on this family who lost their loved one,” Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Louisville, said in a statement. “I have spoken with members of Mr. Mills’ family to convey our city’s condolences.”

The PGA also issued a statement about Mill's death. It read, "Our primary concern today remains the family of John Mills, who lost his life in a tragic accident early this morning while reporting to work."

In a separate event, golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested by LMPD in the traffic caused by the accident. "As it relates to the incident involving Scottie Scheffler, we are fully cooperating as local authorities review what took place," the PGA said. "While the legal process plays out, questions should be directed to Scheffler's attorney or local authorities."

The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating. There were no other injuries. The Jefferson County deputy coroner, Kimberly Smith, ruled Mills' death an accident. He was 69 years old.
