Rebecca and William Bryant started volunteering at the Iroquois Amphitheater four years ago after friends suggested they should.

“I was the first one to try it. And yeah, I liked it. And then I roped him into it. And we’ve been doing it ever since,” said Rebecca.

The Bryants says the Amphitheater has always been a big part of their lives and in the past year they put in over 100 hours volunteering.

“He and I both graduated from high schools right around the corner here,” said Rebecca.

“And we both grew up very close to here,” William added.

“It’s been a focal point. I mean, it’s just Iroquois Park is a big part of our lives. It always has been. And it is a big part of everyone’s lives that has been around here,” said Rebecca.

Louisville Parks and Recreation volunteer coordinator Kelly Cox says volunteers like the Bryants are what make the amphitheater possible.

“We do rely heavily on our volunteers to help with ticketed events when they need help finding their seats. The venue does hold 2,400 people. So, having volunteers there to help people find their way is very important. Also, even if it’s a free event and it’s general admission, people need to know where the restrooms are, where the first aid tent is, where concessions are. So it helps to have people on hand to help give directions,” said Cox.

The Bryants say they started with a passion for working as ushers at the Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular every October and now they continue working concerts and plays.

“It’s very enjoyable just, you know, we have time now that we’re both retire to help out. And it’s just it’s rewarding just to, you know, be being able to do that to give back,” said William.

“And we’re trying to instill that in our grandchildren,” said Rebecca.

“We will continue for as long as we can. Yeah, as long as we’re able. We’ll be here. We enjoy our time here,” said Rebecca.

The Bryants hope others will take the opportunity to give back to the community and volunteer. You can find Iroquois Amphitheater volunteer opportunities on their website
