LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Passengers wanting to use the city’s public transportation system can do so using smartphones.
The Transit Authority of River City—TARC, debuted MyTARC Mobile, a mobile-ticketing option for smartphones.
The new mobile application makes ticketing faster for customers. Riders no longer need to worry about exact change. They pay using the app.
TARC says to use MyTARC, customers need to download the Token Transit App, search for TARC, and choose the ticket that works best for them.
All standard passes, 30-day pass and discounted pass options are available. Each has the standard two-hour transfer time. Existing reduced fare passengers need to call 502-585-1234, and asked to have reduced fares added to the app account.
Passengers just need to activate the pass when they are ready to ride a bus and scan the barcode on their phone on the farebox scanner.
MyTARC Mobile also allows family-style boarding—where one passenger buys multiple passes for several people with just one phone.
TARC says the new app will complement its existing MyTARC card, a preloaded card riders can use. The MyTARC cards are still available at Kroger stores and at TARC customer service kiosks at the Nia Center and TARC headquarters at 1000 W. Broadway.
Customers choosing to use the MyTARC Mobile or the MyTARC card will receive a $0.25 discount over cash fare. This means single ride tickets cost $1.50 instead of $1.75.
