LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Beginning Thursday, April 25 and continuing through Wednesday, May 1, Churchill Downs is opening morning workouts to free to the public every day from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Guests will have the opportunity to view three-year-old Thoroughbreds train up close as they prepare for their Derby week races.
Training on Churchill Downs main track happens daily, from 5:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. Race fans can see Derby and Oaks participants exclusively from 7:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. Those horses will be identified by special saddle towels — yellow for Derby horses and pink for Oaks contenders — which will also include their names.
Guests can enter the racetrack from the Clubhouse Gate and can park for free in the Yellow Lot. Guests will then be directed to Sections 115-117 to watch the morning workouts.
On Sunday and Monday, fans can enjoy breakfast in Millionaires Row or the Stakes Room for Dawn at the Downs. More information can be found on the Derby website.
