LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Second Street Bridge is once again closing to traffic, but this time it’s for Thunder Over Louisville.

  • A pair of bridges will close for Thunder Over Louisville on April 20

  • The Second Street Bridge closes to traffic Thursday morning and will stay closed through the weekend

  • The Big Four Pedestrian Bridge is also closing to visitors

The bridge, known formally as the Clark Memorial, closes Thursday, April 18, beginning at 9:30 a.m. It will remain off limits to traffic through Sunday, April 21 at 2 p.m.

The Big Four Pedestrian Bridge is also closing. Foot traffic will be halted Friday, April 19 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. for an air show practice session. On Thunder Saturday, April 20, the bridge will close at 10 a.m. until midnight. Bridge access is restricted because of safety precautions related to the air show and fireworks show. The Kentucky Derby Festival will have signs up on the bridge to remind visitors.

This year’s Thunder theme is “Celebrating Derby 150,” and it will be the 35th production of the show.

Thunder is one of over 70 events produced by the Kentucky Derby Festival. KDF estimates the show pumps in $56 million to the area’s economy.
