Super Drew’s Crew will host the Super Drew’s Crew Derby Fundraiser on May 4 from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 3rd Turn Oldham Gardens in Crestwood.

Drew Esposito was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2018. As he overcame the disease, his family formed the Super Drew’s Crew charity to help other childhood cancer patients and their families.

“Over 90% of Super Drew’s crew donations go directly to the families,” Drew’s father, Jeremy Esposito, explains. “We have very little overhead cost, and almost everything that’s donated to us goes directly to a family, you know, making a car payment, gas money to get to their next clinic appointment, any number of things that you could think of that could go wrong when you’re going through something like this.”

Most of the money the nonprofit raises—about $30,000 to $40,0000 a year—comes from the Super Drew’s Crew Derby Fundraiser.

“It is our biggest event of the year, and we’re hoping to double it this year,” Jeremy Esposito said.

In typical Kentucky Derby fashion, there will be food, drinks and fancy headwear, along with limited bourbon releases guests can have signed by Super Drew himself.

However, the primary goal of the event is to provide a family-friendly alternative to other Kentucky Derby parties, while raising support for kids with cancer.

“We have bouncies and we’ve got a lot of activities for the kids,” Jeremy Esposito said. “There are not a lot of family friendly Derby activities besides the average house party, but we host a lot of families. About 500 people show up, and we’ve got activities for our young, old.”

For nine-year-old Drew, it goes far beyond the fun of the day.

“It feels really good,” Drew said. “I can help kids that are just in my situation that I was five years ago, and I would probably feel really good if someone did that for me.”
