LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky is inviting fans to the introductory news conference of new head coach Mark Pope.

The event begins at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 14 at Rupp Arena. Admission is free and the doors to Rupp Arena will open at 3:30 p.m. Fans can come in at the main entrance of Rupp Arena off of High Street.

UK says there will be limited parking on High Street and its first-come, first-served. There will be limited concessions for the event and a reminder Rupp Arena is a cashless facility.

 Tom Leach, the voice of the Wildcats, will moderate the news conference.

Pope, who was a captain of the 1996 National Championship team, was named UK’s head coach Friday, April 12. He is the 23rd head coach in the school’s illustrious history.

 He’s been a head coach for nine years with stops at BYU and Utah Valley.

UK won the 1995 and 1996 regular-season Southeastern Conference championship, the 1995 SEC Tournament title and the 1996 NCAA Tournament. He averaged 7.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in 69 career games. Pope was named to the All-SEC Tournament team in 1995, behind a pair of double-doubles in three games, including one in the title game that went to overtime.
