Residents were joined Wednesday by a heavy deployment of tree removal services. Large trees were knocked down by winds greater than 100 miles per hour.

“It sounded like a freight train coming through," said Joanna Conover. "I jumped on down in the storage room at the bottom of my stairs."

When the longtime Hunting Creek resident emerged from her home, she could see trees downed throughout her neighborhood.

"It knocked out the back corner of the dining room," Conover said as she surveyed the damage to her home.

Conover's son led the cleanup Wednesday morning.

"It didn't bust through the drywall, but it did bust through the attic," David Conover said of the tree on their roof. “Thankfully, no one that I know of was hurt, at least here, our neighbors. That’s the main thing. We can replace everything else."

Next door, one of the block's largest trees was toppled over by winds.

"This is a great neighborhood," Joanna said. "Everybody was helping everyone else."

Up the hill from the Conover’s, a roof was blown off one home and thrown into another across the street.

“They’re fine; the house on top of the hill with the roof off, there was no one in the house at that time," Joanna said of her neighbor.

Also deployed to Hunting Creek were a dozen or more utility trucks working to restore power to the area.
