LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Science Center will host a special event for the upcoming solar eclipse at their Main Street location. The eclipse event at the Kentucky Science Center will offer special activities free with admission on April 8 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and a limited number of eclipse glasses will also be distributed free with admission.
Guests for the special event will have access to all the Kentucky Science Center’s 50,000-square feet of activities as well as special programming stationed throughout the galleries. They include educational programming about the eclipse, eclipse-viewing safety, the principles of gravity, different cultural interpretations of eclipses and constellations, and the opportunity to view the partial eclipse.
Activities will include creating pinhole cameras, streaming coverage of the eclipse from NASA, and educational activities to teach students about gravity, UV rays and more.
Guests can also add on documentary screenings of Journey to Space 3-D in the center’s four-story theater. The movie explores NASA’s Space Shuttle program, including the assembly and launch of the International Space Station and the deployment of the Hubble Space Telescope.
“We are so excited to be able to host an event centering around this once-in-20-years phenomenon,” says Kentucky Science Center Chief Executive Officer Mike Norman. “Not only is it thrilling to be part of a scientific wonder, we love having the chance to Do Science with guests from across the region and explain the ‘why’ behind the Eclipse.”
The special event is made possible in part because of a NASA Kentucky Space Grant. The Kentucky Science Center is located at 727 W. Main Street and is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
