“This was an attack on our country, and I am proud that Kentuckians are standing against the true enemies of our nation,” Beshear said in a social media post.

The National Guard said at least 41 Army National Guard soldiers were wounded Sunday in a drone strike. The attack killed three Army Reserve soldiers from an engineer unit in Georgia.

The wounded Guard soldiers are from units based in Arizona, California, New York and Kentucky, according to the National Guard Bureau. The bureau said 27 were able to return to duty while 14 others continue to be evaluated for care, including one who required medical evacuation from Jordan but is in stable condition.

“I echo President Biden and Secretary Austin’s condemnation of this attack,” said Army Gen. Daniel R. Hokanson, the chief of NGB. “It will not deter our citizen-soldiers from their mission of defending America and its interests.”

The NGB said several hundred U.S. Army and Air Force personnel are deployed to the facility in support of the U.S. campaign against the Islamic State group. They include Army Guard soldiers from Arizona’s 1st Battalion, 158th Infantry Regiment; the headquarters of the California-based 40th Infantry Division; Kentucky’s 138th Field Artillery Brigade; and New York’s 101st Expeditionary Signal Battalion.

Beshear noted disclosing the location of the Kentucky National Guard was not typical but came after federal Nation Guard leadership released the information to the public.
