LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department (LCHD) has warned the community of a recent spike in nonfatal overdoses, issuing an overdose spike alert.

  • The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department has reported a recent spike of nonfatal overdoses 

  • According to a computer mapping system, 29 nonfatal drug overdoses were reported between Jan. 4-7

  • In comparison, there were 17 the previous week

  • The department encourages those who have or know someone with substance use disorder to carry naloxone, which is used to reverse opioid overdoses 

According to the county's Overdose Detection Mapping Application System (ODMAP), 29 nonfatal drug overdoses were reported between Jan. 4-7, compared to 17 the previous week. 

The department encourages people to carry naloxone, especially those who have or know someone with substance use disorder. Anyone needing naloxone can participate in the department's Harm Reduction Program, with kits available 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays, 3-6:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursdays in the Dr. Rice C. Leach Community Room at the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, 650 Newtown Pike.

Other ways to help, according to the department, include the following:

  • Don't do drugs alone
  • Those who have or know someone needing treatment for substance use disorder should visit Find Help Now KY for treatment options
  • Check in on friends, family members, neighbors and others 
  • Anyone suspecting an overdose should call 911
