“Yes, we sell books, but that’s not actually what our mission is. Our mission is to be a community place. It is to be something that builds up the community and to have a lot of community by and to shape what this is in the future,” said Kavich.

Rosewater Bookstore is a nonprofit bookstore that started in 2019 and is operated by South Louisville Community Ministries. Facilitator Micah Kavich says the Rosewater is more like a community center that happens to sell books, and it’s all volunteer and donation driven.

“So some people come here and play games. We’re actually hosting a craft night as we speak in the other room book clubs, just anything that people want it to be. It’s the used book sales and the vendor sales and stuff like that. They go towards helping folks in the community who are in crisis do like rental assistance, medication assistance, food and some workforce training,” said Kavich.

Kavich says they got connected with Rosewater through their workforce training program.

“It went from there to volunteer here. So actually, having my job at South Louisville Community Ministries, I’m kind of like the model of what the Rosewater is supposed to do. So that’s why the Rosewater is really specifically important to me,” said Kavich.

Providing literacy and a place to build community.

“Take away that they can make a difference in the community. They can shape the community. They just have to find where they can fit in and do that. And I hope that they find that the Rosewater is a place that they can start to do that,” said Kavich.

Kavich hopes people will get involved with The Rosewater Bookstore in continuing their mission to help the community. The Rosewater Bookstore is always accepting donations and volunteers.
