The nonprofit, known as Change Today, Change Tomorrow helps with food justice and public health barriers.

“Been doing it over a year, giving back to the community,” shared Reid Gamble, with Change Today, Change Tomorrow.

The handouts are a part of their “Feed the West Campaign,” where they hand out food to several locations throughout the week. The food comes from local businesses.

Volunteers handed out fresh produce, bread and flowers Wednesday at Muhammad Ali and 23rd Street in west Louisville.

And the people who stopped by were ecstatic. One of the visitors was Anthony Porter, a senior citizen who lives right across the street from where the food was being handed out.

“As a senior, a lot of seniors are not physically fit, so this is a great service provided to this community. So I think that seniors are overjoyed. When you say free to people, they come out in droves, basically,” he shared.

Porter has spent his years giving to people in need.

“If I’m walking down the street, and I see a homeless person, I’ll give them $10,” he said.

He says acts of kindness like these are a return of his good deeds. “That’s how the Lord takes care of us. You give something to somebody else, you get a reward,” he added.

It’s the feeling of helping others during that goes with the season of giving.

“You don’t want to be stingy, you always want to share. And it helps your heart when you are sharing with other people. It’s just a blessing,” Porter explained.

The group will be set up on Thursday at Albert O. Jones Park on South 24th St. at noon to hand out groceries to more guests.
