BARDSTOWN, Ky. — The family of Crystal Rogers filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Brooks Houck, seeking damages for the loss of her life.
Houck is accused of the murder of Crystal Rogers.
The lawsuit alleges Houck intentionally and wrongfully caused Rogers’ death in 2015. It lists the plaintiffs as Rogers’ mother, Sherry Ballard, and Rogers’ four children. Ballard serves as the administrator of Rogers’ estate.
The lawsuit seeks damages for one count of a wrongful death, including funeral arrangements, lost earnings and the pain and mental suffering Rogers suffered before her death. The suit also has four counts of "loss of consortium" — one for each of her children, who are seeking damages for the loss of the familial support of their mother.
The suit was filed in the Nelson County Circuit Court.
Rogers disappeared in 2015. During his arraignment for criminal charges, Houck entered a not guilty plea. He is being held at an Oldham County Detention Center on a $10 million bond. He is scheduled to be back in court in February 2024.
Two other people, Steven and Joseph Lawson, have been charged in connection with Rogers’ death.
