FRANKFORT, Ky. — In 2019, Andy Beshear and his father Steve Beshear, made history as the first father and son to have ever been elected governor in Kentucky.

Now in 2023, the Beshear’s are the first father and son to be elected to serve back-to-back terms as governor in Kentucky.

During the 62nd inauguration public swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, the event was emceed by the Governor’s senior adviser, Rocky Adkins and will featured a musical performance by Walker Montgomgery, Ben Sollee and Tyler Childers, plus included a reading by Kentucky Poet Laureate Silas House.

Gov. Beshear, D-Ky., was sworn in by Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Michelle M. Keller.

“I ran for office to leave a better world for my children, for all of our children. And this is our chance—Kentucky’s chance—to be the difference, to be both an economic and moral leader in this country. So, we must face this challenge the way we always do—together. Together, we will not meet hate with hate, or anger with anger, or even frustration with frustration. Instead, we will continue with the same love, empathy and compassion that has guided us through so much. For me, these values are grounded in my faith. It teaches me to love my neighbor as myself. To not judge, lest I be judged. That what I do to the least of thee, I do to He,”
