FRANKFORT, Ky. — On this week’s ‘In Focus Kentucky’ program, we are bringing you highlights from this year’s inauguration of Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Lieutenant Gov. Jacqueline Coleman, D-Ky.
Inaugurations in the Commonwealth date back to the year 1792, when Isaac Shelby was inaugurated as the first governor of Kentucky.
Throughout Kentucky’s history, only four men have served two non-consecutive terms as governor, while four others have served two consecutive terms, the most recent being current governor Andy Beshear, who was re-elected to a second term on Nov. 7, 2023.
Beshear was officially sworn in for another four-year term shortly after midnight on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, which is a Kentucky tradition, enshrined in the state’s constitution.
“Over the next four years, we will continue our record-breaking economic win-streak, and create the good-paying jobs that will provide bright and promising futures for every single Kentucky child. We will invest in our educators, continue building what were thought to be impossible infrastructure projects, and run high-speed internet to every home. We will keep our promise to counties and communities devastated by natural disasters by not just rebuilding, but revitalizing. Your Lieutenant Gov. and I will be there personally, every step of the way. We love you and we will get the job done,” said Gov. Beshear.
