CLARK COUNTY, In. — Former Clark County, Indiana sheriff, Jamey Noel, was arraigned Thursday afternoon. He is charged with 15 felony charges, including corrupt business influence, official misconduct, ghost employment and theft.

A 16-page probable cause affidavit alleges Noel had Clark County employees work for him at his private properties while on duty and being paid by the county. The affidavit also says Noel had a collection of approximately 100 cars registered to different people and entities, including some registered to his “nonprofit” fire department and EMS business.

Noel is the CEO of New Chapel Fire & EMS, which is listed as a member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association. It provides emergency services in Clark and Floyd Counties.

Noel’s bond was set at $75,000, which is three times what the state requested. Judge Nicholas Karaffa made Noel surrender his passport and all of his weapons, except for one shotgun. Noel may not leave Indiana.

Special prosecutor Richard Hertel of Ripley County said investigators are waiting on audits from the Indiana State Board of Accounts (SBOA) and a review of tax records from the Indiana Department of Revenue. Hertel did not specify what entity or entities the SBOA is auditing.

Indiana State Police are leading the investigation into Noel.

Noel is a two-term sheriff and former Indiana State police trooper who was featured on the A&E show “60 Days In” during his time as sheriff. The first two seasons of the show were filmed in the Clark County Jail in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Noel is also he is the current chair of the Clark County Republican Party.

His next court day is set for Jan. 8, 2024. A jury trial is expected to start on May 6, 2024.
