LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools has canceled dozens of bus routes after at least 143 bus drivers called out of work.
These cancellations are spread throughout the district. That means as of Monday morning, leaders at JCPS say they do not have a way to get students living in some areas of Louisville to school.
JCPS Chief Communications Director Carolyn Callahan says families and schools are being notified of the cancellations. “We are disappointed that so many drivers have made the decision not to show up for work today, as the people this hurts the most are our students,” Callahan said.
She says students who can’t make it to school because of the transportation issues will have the absences excused.
The “sickout” comes after 87 bus drivers called in sick for Friday morning of last week. As a result, Callahan says a number of students arrived home late.
