DuPont Manual High School senior Shraman Kar is running a nonprofit organization with members all over the world right from his desk.

“I see the impact it has on people and how it empowers people to go out and create their own projects in the community,” said Kar.

The 17-year-old is the founder of Community AI. He trains young people on technology products that better the world using artificial intelligence.

“Unfortunately, AI isn’t really accessible to the youth now because it requires very advance math and computer skills to learn with the resources out there, but in terms of using it for social good you don’t really need to go in that much detail about AI,” said Kar.

By “youth” Kar means kids his own age. He offers free digital AI workshops.

“We hold the workshops kind of once every two weeks and many kinds of mentors and students come in to ask help for their projects and we help guide them in the right direction,” said Kar.

Kar is a 2023 Prudential Emerging Visionary, an award that has allowed him to propel his organization even further, complete with a Time Square billboard.

His community has grown to 800 members in 45 states and 50 countries.

It all started when Kar saw that many AI workshops were costly and hard to follow.

“Our goal is to make it accessible to anyone regardless of their language, socio-economic status or background,” said Kar.

And with high school graduation in sight, Kar knows this is only just the beginning.
