What You Need To Know

  • Residents of Bardstown were quick to react to the arrest of Brooks Houck

  • Houck was the only named person of interest in the case

  •  Community members say they hope the arrest leads to closure for the family and peace for the community

Following the arrest of Houck, members of the Bardstown community offered their thoughts on the eight year long investigation.

“I remember quite well when it first broke,” Jerry Gartland, a lifelong Bardstown resident who owns a business downtown, said. “You know, we’ve got tourists come in, seeing in the Crystal signs and asking questions, and, you know, you have to tell this story over and over and over and, you know, I just want closure for the Ballard family.”

Scattered around the town are yard signs expressing support for the Rogers family, and to find Crystal. Since 2015, this community has continued to wrap its arms around them.

Many, including Taylor Beavers, believe this arrest will help bring closer to the family.

“I hope her family’s doing fine and they get some closure. Her friends, everybody that was kind of her community around her, I hope they’re all doing good today,” Beavers said. “I feel like making this arrest. It’s a step in a direction toward healing.”

The Rogers family has said they will not be commenting on the arrest at this time.
