LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Period Project Annual Donation Drive has been going on for the last couple of weeks to gather period products for the University of Kentucky’s Population Health Clinic and several local nonprofits.
64% of women who took part in a study conducted in St. Louis were unable to afford period products. According to thereport, many women resort to using tissues, toilet paper, and even children’s diapers.
It’s for this reason that the Period Project of Lexington’s organizer, Bethany Setser, started planning yearly donation drives.
Barefoot Works Yoga, Vibe Barre and Fitness, and Rock House Brewing currently have collection bins set up for people to donate period products.
“We’ve definitely made an impact and all of the community partners that we have helped serve in the past couple of years, they’ve always received product every single year,” said Setser.
The donation drive for the UK Health Clinic will be over on Sept. 30, but the collection sites will continue to take donations for the nonprofits until Nov. 30.
