KENTUCKY — September is National recovery month. It’s a time to honor and celebrate people in recovery from substance use disorders.
Over 20 million Americans are recovering from substance use disorder. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) launched new initiatives that promote and support evidence-based treatment and recovery practices.
“With the nation’s current mental health crisis and overdose epidemic, many of us know someone who is struggling with their overall well-being. We at SAMHSA want everyone to know there is hope. There are tens of millions of people in the U.S., that are living proof that recovery is possible,” says Miriam E. Delphin-Rittmon, Ph.D.
The agency says everyone deserves accessible behavioral health care, regardless of who you are, or where you live.
More resources that provide services to Kentuckians who are in recovery from drug use and addiction are now available in Louisville, in a renovated building in the south part of the city, thanks to nonprofit organization, Isaiah House.
During this segment, multimedia journalist Khyati Patel introduces us to the executive director of the treatment center–who explains his inspiring story of overcoming addiction.
