LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women’s basketball team will play 13 games for their non-conference schedule in the 2023-24 season. Seven of the games will be played at the KFC Yum! Center and they will play in Houston at an event over Thanksgiving.
Once again, the season opener for the Cards will be away. They will take a ride up I-71 to take on Cincinnati on Monday, Nov. 6. The Cardinals opened their 2022-23 season against the Bearcats and won 87-68 in Louisville. UofL is 13-3 overall in season openers under head coach Jeff Walz.
UofL’s home opener will be on Sunday, Nov. 12 against the DePaul Blue Demons and begins a three-game home stand. DePaul is followed by Bellarmine and Bucknell.
The Cardinal women will spend the Thanksgiving holiday in Houston, Texas, playing in the 2023 Van Chancellor Classic. They open the tournament against Liberty on Friday, Nov. 24 followed by a game with Gonzaga the next night. The Cards close out the tournament with a game against Tulsa on Sunday.
UofL stays on the road after the tournament and will play in the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge in Oxford, Miss. They will meet Ole Miss on Wednesday, Nov. 29, which is a rematch of the Sweet 16 game last season. The Cards won that contest 72-62 to earn a slot in their fifth-straight Elite Eight. UofL is the only program in the country to make each of the last five Elite Eights.
The team returns home to play four of the final five non-conference games. NC A&T come to town on Sunday, Dec. 3. It will be the first meeting between these two teams.
The Battle 4 the Bluegrass is next when the Cards and the Kentucky Wildcats tangle at the Yum! Center on Dec. 10. UofL has won six in a row over UK. It’s the longest winning streak for the Cardinals in the series history.
Another Kentucky opponent is next when Morehead State comes to visit on Dec. 13. It will be the first meeting between the schools since 2008.
The last non-conference road game takes the Cards to Connecticut for a game against Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies on Saturday, Dec. 16. The last time the two played in 2021, UofL won beating UConn 69-64.
The non-conference schedule ends on Dec. 20 with a game against Washington.
