LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Gas prices are falling in Kentucky according to AAA East Central’s latest Gas Price Report. The average price for a gallon of gas the week of Aug. 21 was $3.530. This time last year, a gallon averaged $3.354.

AAA says the national average for gas dropped four cents last week, despite higher demand. The price of oil has dropped and is hovering at $80 per barrel, which helps prices at the pump.

Labor Day is coming and demand for gas and fluctuating oil prices could send prices up, especially since we are in an active hurricane season.

The national average is up eight cents from a month ago, but four cents lower than last year according to AAA>

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports gas demand rose from 8.85 to 8.91 million barrels per day last week.

Domestic gas stocks increased slightly from 216.2 to 217.6 barrels. While demand increased, the growing stock levels helped push prices lower.

Oil prices have dropped over market concerns that an economic slowdown in China, the world’s largest crude oil importer, could push global oil demand down.

The average prices of unleaded self-serve gas around the state, according to AAA, are:

  • $3.485        Bowling Green
  • $3.290        Elizabethtown
  • $3.888        Louisville
  • $3.241        Owensboro
  • $3.360        Paducah
