LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The official kickoff to the Kentucky Derby Festival is still over 200 days away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t register for events.

What You Need To Know

  • Registration is open for the Kentucky Derby Festival's Tour de Lou

  • Cyclists can choose to participate in one of three distances

  • The event takes place Sunday, April 14, 2024

  • KDF will release course information next year

Registration is underway for the PNC Tour de Lou. For over 10 years, the event has drawn fans and will occur Sunday, April 14, 2024. Riders can register online.

Matt Gibson, Kentucky Derby Festival President & CEO said in a statement, “It’s become a signature Derby Festival event for cyclists at all experience levels and we look forward to welcoming participants from around the country to ride with us in 2024.”

Riders will go through some of the city’s most scenic areas, including parks, neighborhoods and history spots, including Churchill Downs.

They will also cruise through a portion of southern Indiana.

KDF is offering three different courses for riders and registration fees vary with each. Unlike the Marathon and miniMarathon, these courses are open, meaning there will be no street closures.

Registration prices will be lower from Aug. 24-31 and will increase at midnight on Sept. 1.

The three options are:

  • 20 miles—Ideal for beginners or those new to cycling ($40)
  • 35 miles—Ideal for moderate/experienced riders ($50)
  • 62.1 miles (Metric Century)—Ideal for advanced riders or those seeking a challenge ($65)

There will be staggered start times based on distance. Metric Century riders will take off at 8 a.m., those going 35 miles will start at 8:10 a.m. and those riding 20 miles will begin at 8:20 a.m.

For riders who want to log their own miles and go at their own pace, KDF offers a virtual alternative for $45. Riders can still choose one of the three mileage options.

Every rider receives a Tour de Lou ride shirt, swag bag and access to a post-ride party.

KDF says it will release specific course and route details early next year.
