LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The westbound Interstate 64 lane on the top deck of the Sherman Minton bridge has reopened to traffic following the completion of emergency repairs. The bridge is a major thoroughfare between Kentucky and Indiana.

According to the Sherman Minton Renewal team, periodic closures will continue as needed as part of the ongoing, planned rehabilitation project. The group said routine nightly closures are still possible as crews continue work on the project’s third phase.

Work crews will also be performing a concrete pour of the top deck Friday evening, Aug. 25, weather permitting. The right lane (top deck) of I-64 westbound will be closed as early at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25 until around 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, or until the completion of concrete pouring activities.

During top deck lane closures, there will be no access from I-64 westbound to the New Albany exit 123. Traffic will continue to use one westbound lane and two eastbound lanes on the lower deck during the lane closures.

The Sherman Minton bridge has had periodic closings throughout the summer as it undergoes a major rehabilitation project. Both lanes of traffic were unexpectedly closed on July 27 when it was discovered the bridge would need emergency repairs.
