LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Sherman Minton bridge, which carries traffic on I-64 between Louisville and New Albany, Indiana, is closed in both directions.
Officials with the Sherman Minton Renewal Project said a component of the bridge deck on the Kentucky approach span was found to be "in need of immediate repair" on Thursday. Both decks of the bridge will remain closed until further notice, officials said.
Drivers are advised to take alternate routes to cross the Ohio River. The suggested alternate route will be I-265 and I-65.
Regional traffic signs and variable message boards will be posted in the project area, notifying motorists of the closure and alternate route.
