Hundreds of people within the Warren County district gathered at the church, hoping to save parents a school supply shopping trip.

Youth Service Coordinator Lynn Vincent has assisted with the event for 25 years, and said she hopes to help those who have been hurt by inflation.

“That’s what the family service center is about, filling that gap, eliminate barriers to kids coming to school and learning,” Vincent said. “I love it.”

According to a recent report by the National Retail Federation, money spent on school supplies has continued to skyrocket. It’s expected to reach an unparalleled $41.5 billion—up from $36.9 billion last year.

The Back-to-School Bash brought the community together to help ease students’ anxiety for the upcoming school year. It also served as a way of easing stresses that most families are going through.

“With inflation, prices are high right now,” Warren County Education Assistant Director Joshua Smith said. “So this is a way the community can come together, support families, and everyone who starts school up in August, will have a level playing field.”

As a result, parents are pretty happy about it.

“Giving to the community and helping out, that’s one thing Bowling Green is good for,” parent Mosope Mustapha said.

Warren County Public Schools will resume their academic year on Aug. 9, 2023.
