LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado has retired from horseracing. The Peru native made the announcement on June 20 after a storied career.
He finishes his career ninth in all-time North American earnings with $272,008,849 and eighth all-time in North American wins with 7,119 while riding in 39,725, according to Blood Horse Magazine.
Prado last rode on Jan. 6 at Gulfstream Park. The Hall of Fame rider won the 2006 Kentucky Derby aboard Barbaro and won the Belmont Stakes twice.
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008.
