“I lead the large construction projects for our electric distribution,” said Ash Norton, general manager of major projects at Duke Energy.

Norton was one of the women honored at the awards this year. Her dedication and perseverance in a male-dominated career while being a wife, mom and a volunteer in the community helped her earn this award.

“I started on as an engineering co-op at Duke Energy in 2004 and so from there I just discovered and experimented with different aspects at Duke Energy,” she explained.

Norton said the award was a big surprise. “When I was told I about being honored this way, it was a shock. But it’s really great to know in this community, we really celebrate the contributions of so many women,” she said.

The Outstanding Women of Northern Kentucky Awards have been going on for 40 years now. They were created in 1984 by the late Nancy Boothe. The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Women’s Initiative is continuing the legacy with this year’s sponsors that include St. Elizabeth Healthcare and PNC Bank.

This year’s event was held at Turfway Park Racing and Gaming.

“I think it’s really a unique part of our history and our community that we’ve been doing this for so many years. Over 230 women have been recognized and every year the nominations just showcase how many women are leading in our region,” said Katie Meyer, chair for the Outstanding Women of Northern Kentucky committee.

Norton said it was touching to be one of the women recognized.

“There’s so many people that I know who do amazing things, so for me to be selected it’s a little overwhelming and exciting, but it’s truly honoring,” she shared.

The Women’s Initiative was started by the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce in 2008 and works to highlight the work of hardworking women throughout the year.
