LEXINGTON, Ky. — Several people gathered at the Kentucky Theatre in Downtown Lexington for a watch party to support the Pioneers as they faced Christopher Newport University on Saturday.

Students were in attendance, including Em Spencer, a junior on the golf team at Transylvania University who is friends with some of the basketball players.

“It’s been really awesome to see people that you’ve had classes with and that you know around campus, like, succeeding on the court as well as in the classroom,” said Spencer.

Throughout the first half, the scores were close. The intensity continued after halftime as fans continued to cheer the women on.

To the relief of everyone in the theatre, the Pioneers went on to win the championship with a score of 57 to 52.

Freshman Grace Ransdell attended the watch party with her mother and fellow student, Summer Hart.

“I was so excited,” said Ransdell. “I very much was jumping up and down with my best friend and my mom. It was incredible.”

The excitement was palpable, with many of those in attendance jumping for joy along with Ransdell and Hart at the conclusion of the game.

The team went undefeated throughout the entire season and is the first team at Transylvania University to win a national championship.
