LEXINGTON, Ky. — Leticya Madrigal moved to Lexington a few years ago and recently started her business, Madrigal Mobile Detailing.

Madrigal’s interest in detailing cars began with wanting to keep her own cars looking nice.

“The past couple of years I’ve been talking about wanting to get big into it, but this year, actually this month, I kind of set stone that I really want to do this,” said Madrigal.

She utilized different resources to learn how to detail cars.

“I’ve done a lot of studying from other detailers around the world and follow a bunch of pages and have listened to podcasts about using great products and things like that,” said Madrigal.

She has taken those skills to open her business, entering an industry that is male dominated.

“I definitely have a drive for kind of doing things that people say women shouldn’t do or can’t do,” said Madrigal.

Women wanting control over their schedules is the main reason for women starting businesses, according to an UpCity survey of 400 U.S. female entrepreneurs.

“This would definitely help with just being able to have my own schedule, taking days off that I need,” said Madrigal.

According to that same survey, 46% of respondents started their business on the side while continuing to work full-time.

“I still work full-time with a construction company, so this is my side gig until I can get more clientele and get my name out there,” said Madrigal.

She posted in a Lexington women’s Facebook group that gained some traction for her business. Because of that post, she has been booked out for the rest of the month.

“I’ve had quite a few people reach out to me, which is awesome because I love seeing females supporting females,” said Madrigal.
