In his first event as mayor, Mayor Craig Greenberg listened to community members on their concerns and issues, hoping to find a solution.

Inside the Northeast Family YMCA, Greenberg heard on topics ranging from potholes to the most recent findings from the DOJ report.

“We wanted to ask you about the DOJ report that’s come out,” said one resident to Greenberg. He listened to her concerns and addressed them.

On Wednesday night, more than 100 people attended the first Mayor’s Night Out. For many, the concern involved directly addressing racial justice issues and holding leadership accountable.

On Tuesday, Greenberg announced a new police oversight agreement that gives access to body camera footage to the Office of Inspector General and requires officer interviews.

But for some, it’s not enough.

“The evidence in the Department of Justice study is not new and we need to see more than lip service,” said Carla Wallace, with Louisville Showing for Racial Justice. “We need to see more that the firing of a couple of police officers. The DOJ uncovered a pattern of abuse.”

With the first Mayor’s Night Out wrapped up, Greenberg credits people within the Louisville Metro Government to make progress in the city.

“I certainly couldn’t do this alone. That’s why I’m honored to be their colleague so that we can listen, respond and take action to make our city government provide even better services to build a safer, stronger and healthier city,” Greenberg said.

Previous Mayor Jerry Abramson hosted Mayor’s Nights Out.
