Raquel Carter is the owner and principal broker of Guide Reality, which is the largest African American-owned real estate company in Kentucky. She started this venture with her mother in 2008.

Guide Realty began as a small family-owned realty group but now has 40 agents, with offices in Lexington and Louisville, and is expanding outside of Kentucky.

“We are in full expansion mode, you know. We’re just looking to grow people, we’re looking to grow wealth, and home ownership and we are just excited to be doing all of those things,” said Carter.

Carter has continued her mother’s legacy, who passed away from cancer in 2013.

“She definitely did encourage me… encourage my entrepreneurship spirit, and that’s really one of the reasons that we host the women’s organization,” said Carter.

Stephanie Spires founded Women Entrepreneurs Lex about four years ago. The group holds monthly meetings to network, offer support, and host speakers, but they are not just about business. The women in the group seem to have formed friendships amongst one another.

“Being in those places for both comradery but also to offer support and encouragement has been instrumental in our growth,” said Carter.

The group will meet again next month on March 13. For more information on how to attend the meeting, you can visit Women Entrepreneurs Lex’s website.
