Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 24, the aquarium is hosting an indoor adventure for everyone to escape the cold and have some fun learning with its new Underwater Scavenger Hunt Around the World.

Visitors will be treated to new animals, including a rare albino catfish born at the aquarium and the captivating weedy sea dragons.

While looking at the animals, visitors will also search the exhibits for hidden globes as part of the scavenger hunt. Each globe has a letter. Combine the letters and a figure out the secret phrase and enter a chance to win four Newport Aquarium Gold annual memberships and a $100 Skyline Chili gift card.

The weedy sea dragons recently joined the Seahorses: Unbridled Fun gallery. The animals get their name from their plant-like appearance and graceful movements. The aquarium says the sea dragons are known for the “dance” they perform during courtship.

Another striking find during the scavenger hunt is the albino channel catfish. Not only was this fish born at the aquarium, but neither of its parents have the albino trait. It just so happens the fish was born alongside two white American alligators, Snowball and Snowflake, in Gator Alley.

Newport Aquarium launched a new three-tier membership program, Silver, Gold and Platinum annual memberships. This will allow visitors to choose a membership that best fits their family. The Underwater Scavenger Hunt Around the World is included free with admission or annual membership.
