LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Ahead of the brutally cold weather, Veteran's Club stopped by a few areas near downtown Louisville to pass out cold weather and hygiene supplies to those without a permanent home.

What You Need To Know

  • Extreme cold can be particularly dangerous to people staying outside

  • Organizations like Veteran's Club gave out supplies to help

  • Items like gloves, hygiene products and emergency blankets were given out

  • If they get more donations, Veteran's Club plans to help more through the cold snap

Jeremy Harrell, CEO and founder of Veteran’s Club, says this is the third time they’ve handed out supplies this month. Normally, they only do it once per month, but with such cold weather forecasted, they decided to do more.

“This work that we do as an organization, I mean it’s a passion of mine. It’s something that I’ve been doing for the last five years and I just really, really enjoy being able to bless others,” Harrell said.

Along with passing out supplies, Harrell is encouraging those on the streets to find a shelter to stay at. “But we also know that in this community there are some mental health challenges that we work with and that they may not even understand what’s about to happen,” Harrell said.

As for why he continues to come back out here? Harrell says, it’s just helping others is just the right thing to do.

“It’s about just taking care of each other and if we all did that, we wouldn’t have some of the issues that we have today in society. I wholeheartedly believe that so we are doing a small part, you know, for the city, for the people who live here, and we are going to continue to do that work as long as we have to” “

Harrell adds if they receive more donations, they plan on passing them out over the next few days.
