LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Mega Cavern’s Lights Under Louisville has been named one of the best holiday lights displays in the nation. Lights Under Louisville was ranked fifth out of 10 winners in the 2022 USA TODAY 10Best Reader’s Choice travel award contest. The Mega Cavern was also ranked on the list in 2018, 2020 and 2021.

A panel of experts joined USA TODAY’s 10Best editors to pick the initial nominees. The Top 10 winners were determined by popular vote. Here are this year’s winners:

  8. Natchitoches Christmas Festival - Natchitoches, La.
  9. Austin Trail of Lights - Austin, Texas
  10. The Lights of Christmas - Stanwood, Wash.

Lights Under Louisville has received many accolades in recent years. . In 2016, Southern Living magazine named Lights Under Louisville “Kentucky’s Best Holiday Experience.” In 2017, Trip Advisor named Louisville Mega Cavern among its top 25 attractions in the country. In 2017, CNN Travel named Lights Under Louisville among the top nine Christmas light attractions around the world. 

This year, guests can still experience one of the nation’s “Best Public Holiday Lights Displays” and drive under Louisville to experience over 6 million twinkling lights until Jan. 1, 2023. The experience includes 40 themed displays, approximately 900 illuminated characters and four LED light tunnels (including a new, 200-foot-long MEGA light tunnel). The immersive 30-minute ride takes visitors through over a mile of cavern passageways.
