LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Andrew Holt has been a Louisville Cardinals fan his entire life. The University of Louisville student believes the football program just took a big leap in the right direction.

What You Need To Know

  • Jeff Brohm has been named the new UofL head football coach

  • Some students are excited about his return home

  • They believe he will have a positive impact on the program

  • Brohm is a former UofL football star and coach

“I think we upgraded even though like a few days ago it didn’t seem like we were going to and we just got Big Brohm,” said Holt.

Jeff Brohm has been named the new UofL football head coach. He replaces Scott Satterfield, who abruptly left on Monday to lead the Cincinnati Bearcats.

First-year UofL student Tyrone Brown calls Satterfield a good coach with questionable intentions. “I feel like he kind of leapt at the first opportunity to get away, so maybe Louisville wasn’t his first choice originally, which there’s nothing wrong with it. I guess,” said Brown.

But how Satterfield left is a different story for both students. “I thought it was messed up. Can’t lie, because of the short notice. Apparently, he didn’t tell any of the players, just left and he was already on the news in that new press conference before he told anybody with our team,” commented Holt.

Brown believes it was a bad move on the players. “I’m sure a lot of them felt betrayed. I felt like he could have definitely, could have maybe postponed the announcement. They do have a bowl game against the same team that he’s going to so, I definitely feel like it was really poor timing,” said Brown.

Holt and Brown are excited to see Brohm, a Louisville native and former UofL football star, lead from the sidelines. “We’ve got a better chance of him wanting to build here for the long term, which is I think what most fans in any place, any team would want,” said Brown.

“I think we’re gonna just get better and better and hopefully improve our record every year, and eventually get to top-tier status to where we only lose a few games a year,” predicted Holt.

They’ll be rooting for the Cardinals in the Fenway Bowl against Cincinnati on Dec. 17, and they want Brohm to know he is being welcomed back home with open arms.

“We’ve got your back,” said Holt.

Deion Branch, UofL’s director of player development, is serving as the interim head coach for the bowl game.
