FLORENCE, Ky. — It's the season of giving. 7 Hills Church's Christmas Child Program is underway, with the help of some partnerships in the area.
“We work with specific schools and partners in the area to help identify those needs. These family resource counselors are so integral in helping us find these families that really wouldn’t have a Christmas if somebody didn’t step up and provide that Christmas for them,” Kyle Waid, a pastor for the church, said.
Waid said families receiving help from the program were able to come in through part of the week to finish signing up for help. He said the last day for these families to sign up was Thursday, but the fun begins for the church in setting off to get the items on the list.
“The entire church will step up and they’ll sponsor a kid, sponsor a family, they’ll go out and do the shopping,” he said.
They’ll get items based on interests the families filled out about their children, and make sure items are given to families later in the month to spread some Christmas cheer.
“We can’t help everybody, but we can help some. With the some that we can, to think that you can create that memory, I think is so powerful, so special,” Waid said.
Jessica Hall said she’s got five kids. She said she’s wanting to give them a Christmas this year and something like this helps.
“People go through a lot and they just need the help to make sure there is something under the tree for children to open this time of year,” she said.
Hall said she was able to get the help she needed with this program through schools. It’s a little bit of help to make sure her kids still have some of that magic on Christmas.
“It’s like amazing that people team up and do this for the communities. It’s really great,” Hall said.
