LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After years of anticipation, city leaders and community members cut the ribbon on the first Topgolf in Kentucky. The recreation facility is at Oxmoor Center in Louisville.
Mayor Greg Fischer was on hand at the opening ceremony and thanked Topgolf officials for “keeping the faith” in Louisville.
“We’re really excited to have Topgolf here in the city,” he said. “It’s been a little longer than what we’ve wanted, but we’ve stayed the course. The city has been behind it all the way and almost all the city of Louisville as well.”
It was an effort years in the making that initially faced opposition from some neighbors concerned about increased light and noise levels. The three-level venue has over 100 climate-controlled outdoor hitting bays, food service and a bar. According to Topgolf, the location will employ about 500 people.
Terrence Carter of Metro United Way, one of the first people to try it out, said he expected the site to be a “huge economic driver” for the city.
“I think it’s really nice, really neat, cool, a family event, corporate event,” he said. “I’m just looking forward to coming out, spending time with family and friends, taking advantage of the golf facility and working on my backswing.”
