LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Scott Davenport led the Bellarmine Knights to victory in signature fashion. The team trounced the Campbellsville-Harrodsburg Pioneers 86 to 46 points. What made the victory even sweeter, though, was that it represents Davenport’s 400th career win.

  • This win is Scott Davenport’s 400th career victory

  • The Knights played the game on the team’s historic home court Knights Hall

“I had no idea until I was asked about it. No clue,” Davenport said, describing the achievement. “It is the definition of a program. The paychecks are not about what goes in the bank, they’re emotional paychecks. The student body, the community - it was incredible.”

Also notable, the Knights notched this victory in Knight’s Hall, the team’s historical home court. Before moving to Division 1, the Knights played there from 1950 up to the 2019-20 season. Bellarmine dominated early. By halftime, the Knights had built a 48-23 lead over Campbellsville-Harrodsburg. They also outscored the Pioneers 38-23 in the second half.

“We needed a game like this from a health standpoint, a conditioning standpoint and a confidence standpoint,” Davenport said. “We played three games in six days with a tough trip in the middle. If you learn from it, it helps you.”

Freshman guard Peter Suder delivered an impressive performance, with a game-high 22 points on 9-for-14 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Sophomore forward Curt Hopf nailed 5-of-6 shots, scoring 14 points, and freshman guard Ben Johnson sank a trio of 3-pointers for 12 points.

Eleven Knights scored, 11 snagged at least one rebound and 10 managed at least one assist. Sophomore forward Langdon Hatton pulled out a game-high seven rebounds, while senior guard Garrett Tipton distributed a game-best five assists.

“The 24 assists are probably the highlight of the night,” Davenport said.

Suder tapped Tipton for a layup to begin the scoring. Next came a 3-pointer that gave Bellarmine the lead for good, less than one minute into the game. A Hopf 3-pointer and baskets by Tipton and senior guard Bash Wieland off feeds from senior guards Juston Betz and Alec Pfriem boosted the advantage to 17-2. After that, the Knights never looked back.

Bellarmine now hits the road. They will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Clemson. The Knights will then play at 8:30 p.m. Monday at Duke.
