LEXINGTON, Ky. — For the first time in seven years, Keeneland is hosting the Breeders’ Cup World Championship and drawing fans from all over. One group is the Love family, who traveled from Harrisburg, Pa. for the occasion.

What You Need To Know

  • This is the first time the Love family has attended the Breeders’ Cup

  • Josh Love, the youngest son, won $2,700

A trio of father and two sons, the Love boys have fallen head over heels for horse racing. “I mean I’ve always done it since growing up, I had some friends who did it, I’ve owned a couple horses in my life and they’ve just gravitated to it through me and we thought it was a great boys weekend,” the father, Todd Love, said.

Instead of watching the race in front of their TV this year, Todd, Matt and Josh Love got a front-row seat.

“We have always watched the Breeders’ Cup live on TV the past couple years so we thought 'hey it’s not too far from us to take the trip, take it all in',’’ Matt Love said. "Keeneland, this place is awesome, I mean I couldn’t have had a better experience so far.”

And since they planned to watch the action live, they had to dress to the nines.

“Well, we were like 'we’re going to the Breeders’ Cup. We’ve got to wear something crazy' so we found this website online and we got these amazing crazy suits and that was about it,” Josh Love said.

The looks must have been working. Well, at least for Josh. So far he’s won $2,700.

“Oh, that was exhilarating. The adrenaline is pumping through me right now. It’s all going to hit me when I put the ticket in the machine,” Josh said.

The Love family spent the whole day at Keeneland betting on nearly every race.

“He’s buying dinner. Matt and I are not doing so well. Josh has had a good race, a lot of races to go, so hopefully one of us hits, but like I said, he’s definitely buying dinner,” Todd said.

After all the dust settles, the Breeders’ Cup will crown nine more World Champions who will compete in distinct divisions and across various surfaces.
