COVINGTON, Ky. — Families found their way into the Salvation Army. Their purpose, to sign up for Christmas help. Captain Wanessa Moore, corps officer at the northern Kentucky Salvation Army, was on hand to aid with filling out paperwork.

“In the Greater Cincinnati area, some of the other locations have already gone through the application process and our downtown office actually saw double the numbers from last year,” Moore said.

Captain Moore explained that in northern Kentucky, the Salvation Army is expecting numbers to be up from last year as well. People will need help with toys, clothing, food and other items this holiday season. Moore also said the organization recently noticed a higher demand for food needs in recent months.

“Our numbers, I want to say, have more than doubled in our food pantry in the last couple months,” Moore said.

She said they distribute what little they’re given, and that things have been lean recently. She also mentioned that the charity is short on help this year. Unfortunate because Christmastime is typically an all-hands-on-deck experience at the Salvation Army.

“For people to come in and help and help us with our bell ringing and to help us with our angel trees and just to help in any way they can,” Moore said.

“We haven’t fallen short yet. We just trust God that we’re going to make it happen somehow, some way, and Northern Kentucky is a wonderful place,” she said.
