GEORGETOWN, Ky. — It’s a retired newspaper box that is still delivering good news to those in need.

What You Need To Know

  • Jenny Grover came up with the idea for a box to help others and approached the pastor of Faith Baptist Church about the idea

  • For William Reilly, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, it was another way to help Scott County become hunger free

  • For volunteers, it is a way to show that people care and God cares

“This is a blessing box. It provides food for people that are in need,” explained Jenny Grover, one of the blessing box volunteers.

In Georgetown, just outside the Faith Baptist Church, a variety of food products fill this box.

Take what you need, leave what you can.

"Well, we want them to know what this box is about and that the food is available for them. But if they can help put food in there, that’s wonderful. They’re a blessing,” said Grover.

Grover came up with this simple idea for the blessing box to help who may be food deprived to ensure no one goes hungry. She approached the pastor of Faith Baptist for permission to place the box on church property, something the church was happy to allow.

“So, for us, it was easy to say yes,” said William Reilly, pastor of Faith Baptist Church. “Why not, I guess would be the question. We have the space.”

“If someone can’t make it downtown, they can walk past this on their way to the grocery store. They can walk past this when they bring their kids to the playground. So, this is one of many efforts like that to truthfully transform Scott County by allowing it to be hunger free,” he added.

Just a few miles from this Blessing Box, Jenny Grover’s husband, Barry, is at the family home putting the finishing touches on what will soon be the next Blessings Box.

“Right now, it’s really a tough time in our world right now and we know people are hurting out there and to just,” Barry said. “God gives us the ability to do this. He gives us the resources to do it and we just are thankful that we can and we can be there to help other people out and that’s the main reason to do it.”

“What my dream is for this box is to let people know we care, there’s people that care. That God cares,” Jenny said.

The blessing box is available day or night for those in need.
