KENTUCKY — On Nov. 8, 2022, Kentucky voters will take their picks in a host of high-profile statewide and local races, and decide on a consequential ballot measure that could seal the fate of abortion access in the state.

With just over a month until Election Day, an important deadline is fast approaching — all eligible voters must be registered to vote by Wednesday, Oct. 11.


What You Need To Know

  • The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 8 General Election is Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.

  • You can register to vote online or in-person at your local county clerk's office

  • Once your registration application is complete and accepted, your local county clerk's office will send a notice via mail confirming your registration and notifying you of your polling place

  • You can check or update your registration by visiting govoteky.com

Each individual's online voter registration has to be completed by 4 p.m. ET on Oct. 11. You can register, or check if you're already registered, by visiting govoteky.com.

Once your registration application is complete and accepted, your local county clerk's office will send a notice via mail confirming your registration and notifying you of your Election Day polling place.

If you'd rather register to vote in-person, you can fill out a voter registration card. These can be found at your county clerk's office or printed out from home and mailed to either the county clerk's office or the State Board of Elections (140 Walnut St., Frankfort, Ky.).

Who's eligible to vote?

According to the Kentucky Secretary of State's office, eligible Kentucky voters must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be a current resident of Kentucky
  • Be at least 18 years of age on or before Election Day
  • Not be a convicted felon, or if they have been convicted of a felony, had their right to vote restored following an expungement, executive pardon or executive order
  • Have not been judged "incompetent" in a Kentucky court of law
  • Not claim the right to vote anywhere outside Kentucky

Who can vote via absentee ballot?

Anyone unable to vote on Election Day due to health issues, work schedule, residency reasons, age, disability or illness can requested a mailed absentee ballot at govoteky.com. The deadline to apply online for an absentee ballot is Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, at 11:59 p.m.

Kentucky voters can also cast an in-person absentee ballot during their local county clerk's office's normal business hours in the six business days leading up to Nov. 3, 2022.

When can anyone cast their ballot?

You can vote at your specific polling place on Tuesday, Nov. 8 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time. Those in line when the polls close at 6 p.m. can still cast their ballot.

All voters can also vote early in-person from Nov. 3-5, the Thursday, Friday and Saturday before Election Day.
