LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Before you finalize your weekend travel plans, be careful which roads you're taking. Lane closures will impact Interstate 264 (Watterson Expressway) in both directions this weekend.

What You Need To Know

  • Contruction on I-264 begins Friday, Sept. 30

  • Two lanes will be closed in both directions

  • Roadwork is scheduled to end Sunday, Oct. 2.

  • Weather or other delays could alter construction

Specifically, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the right two eastbound lanes will be closed between KY 864 (Poplar Level Road, 13.5 mile marker) to KY 155 (Taylorville Road, 17 mile marker).

This stretch of the Watterson Expressway will likely see some delays this weekend.

Similarly, two westbound lanes will also be shutdown. These are slated to be the two left lanes between U.S. 31E (Bardstown Roard, mile marker 16) and KY 1703 (Newburg Road, mile marker 14.5).

However, KYTC does plan to keep two lanes open in both directions. That said, any restriction of vehicle access will likely lead to some measure of traffic slowdown.

The roadwork will begin Friday, Sept. 30 at 11 p.m. and set to conclude 4 p.m., Sunday Oct. 2. KYTC admitted that its construction timeframe isn’t completely set in stone — unforeseen delays like inclement weather could cause the timing of the project to shift.
